Sam Scranton is worried about boredom, eternity, creature feeling, fun, human-smallness, true love, genius-making, depressive realism, terror management theory, junk mail and dust. His compositional practice creates dense constellations of significance and resonance between works, always drawing his interlocutor toward himself as creator. He achieves this through the careful curation of obsessions, conscientious reinterpretation and obfuscation of past ideas, and the construction of a sui generis idiom. Recent awards include 1st place in Gaudete Brass’s fanfare competition, as well as Roosevelt University’s Vector Project. His work has been installed in Art Of This gallery in Minneapolis, MN, as part of a collaborative multimedia installation piece with artist Molly Roth. As a percussionist, he has performed around the world with avant rock ensemble Volcano!, their music released by the Leaf Label (UK). Currently, he lives in Chicago, pursuing a M.M. in composition at Roosevelt University.
